About the Pacifica Synod Structure To support its members and congregations, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) structure provides leadership through a Churchwide office and 64 geographical (and one nongeographical) synods located in nine regions. Each synod is headed by a bishop. The geographical area of the Pacifica Synod covers the state of Hawaii and portions of Southern California, including the counties of Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, San Diego, Imperial and portions of Los Angeles. The number of ELCA congregations in the Pacifica Synod is currently 125, comprising approximately 60,000 baptized members.
