Why
is the Pacifica Synod offering Spiritual Care and Wellness events?
The Pacifica Synod recognizes the need for the Church to take their
care-based ministries into their local community. Through the Preparing
Adult Lay Leaders for Mission and Ministry program (PALLMM), the Synod
is presenting a wide range of opportunities for interested people
to become better equipped to minister to the needs of the whole person.
For whom are the events? All people with a desire to learn
and serve are welcome. Those already serving within a congregation
will have the effectiveness of their ministry enhanced. The program
will also provide a gateway into other established care ministries
by helping to identify and strengthen the gifts the student develops
at these events.
Equally important and a point of focus is the spiritual and physical
wellness of the participants themselves. The Pacifica Synod is blessed
to have many gifted teachers and leaders, both clergy and laity, who
help minister to the needs of the individual and community.
What kind of subjects will be offered? The kinds of areas covered
under Spiritual Care and Wellness are wide and varied. Some of the
basic areas are:
· Parish Nursing
· Elder Care
· Health and Wellness
· Spiritual Gifts Discernment and Development
How long are the events and how much does it cost? The events
will take the form of regular on-going classes, workshops, retreats,
and other venues. The cost will vary with the type of event offered.
These opportunities may lead the lay person to look into other established
ministries. There are scholarships available for participating congregations
and individuals.
Where do I go for the events and who teaches them? Seminary
and college professors, pastors, and other presenters with particular
skills teach the classes and events. They are offered at various sites
around the Pacifica Synod on a rotating basis. Some classes are offered
online. There will be other events presented as retreats for more
intimate and intense experience.
