OUR CHILDREN MINISTRY TEAM

Mission:
To
facilitate and implement the Cherish Our Children Initiative,
as adopted by the 2007 Pacifica Synod Assembly, throughout all
congregations within the Synod.
Responsibilities:
1)
Implement the ELCA Message on Commercial Sexual Exploitation.
2)
Encourage cherish prayers, education, raising awareness, relationship-building,
and action among Pacifica Synod congregations for the safety,
love and protection of our children.
3)
Working in concert with the synod office, provide training and
resources for this program to all congregations in the synod.
4)
Find out what is happening in Pacifica Synod communities to
bring light to the exploitation of children.
5)
Equip the saints for action informed by awareness of this social
evil.
6)
Prevent youth from becoming captives through education and prevention.
7)
Address the demand for what the system of sexual exploitation
offers.
8)
Support local agencies that work with youth and adults who are
in prostitution.
9)
Seek the involvement of 50% or more of the synod's congregations
in this program by the year 2012.
Accountability:
The
Cherish Our Children Ministry Team operates under Pacifica Synod
Constitution article S11.01. and SA (need article). The
team is accountable to the Synod Council through the designated
Synod Council liaison. The team works in conjunction with the
staff of our synod including in particular the designated Assistant
to the Bishop.
It
is expected that this team would provide a written report to
the Synod Assembly annually (due to the Synod Office March 1).
It
is expected that this team would identify goals and objectives
for the coming year annually (due to the Synod Council July
1).
Composition:
The
Ministry Team Leader, clergy or lay, is appointed by Synod Council
to serve for a term of three years (renewable). The team is
comprised of members of Pacifica Synod congregations, clergy
or lay, who feel called to the ministry of this team and serve
at will.
