Pacifica Synod Assembly Begins

Registration begins...
Bishop Murray Finck opens the assembly. Leading the bible study, Bishop Finck concentrated on Philippians 2:1-5.

Among the first items of business was the reception into the synod of two new congregations: Spirit of Peace L.C. in Big Bear City and Redeemer L.C. in Chino. Members from the two congregations gather on the stage to the applause and approval of the assembly with the affirmation, "AMEN!"
ELCA Vice-president, Carlos Pena, is greeted by Bishop Finck before presenting his report on the status of the national ELCA. Mr. Pena, speaking in both English and Spanish, talked about ongoing ELCA ministries, and brought greetings from Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson. He also praised Pacifica for sponsoring border miniseries and PALLMM.
Pastor Howard and Mary Wennes spoke on hunger issues.
Pastor Lyle Peterson addresses the assembly regarding the use of the Lutheran Credit Union's Affinity Visa Credit Card Program. Used to support Open Hearts, Open Hands in the past, the card will now sponsor New Mission Development Endowment Fund.
